New bike!

After months of researching I finally purchased a new bike. My current road bike (Trek 1500) is about seven years old and while it still works, it is an entry level bike. My new speedster is a 2011 Cervelo P2.

I must say it is pretty sexy and my ability does not do it justice. I’m currently riding it on my trainer and trying to get use to the aero position. This appears to be a slow process but it has gotten better. I had to swap out the stock seat to help with the pressure on the “you know what, in the you know where”.

Special thanks to the guys at Bicycle World and Fitness on Memorial. I can’t recommend them enough. If you are looking for a new ride, or your first ride, check them out.

New best friend

I’ve been looking into getting a bike trainer so I can get my long rides when the weather is less than ideal. Well I stumbled upon this post on the slowtwitch forums. People that know me know I love a good deal and I got one on the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.

Did I mention free shipping?

So my new bestest buddy is on the way.

Oh crap!

Someone over in the Iamtri.com Ironman Texas group posted the reminder that we are six months from the event. Oh crap!
I’ve got to step up my training. I’ve been missing some gym workouts here and there, which isn’t good. The good news is I’ve completed a couple of long runs on Saturdays. I completed 6.8 miles this past week. Nice easy pace.

I had a dream last night that I was running a “practice” ironman in the Houston area. From some reason I got sidetracked and end up not finishing it. Hmmmm can you tell what I’m worried about

Firethorne Sprint Tri 2010

I ran the Firethorne Sprint Triathlon this past weekend. I ran this event last year and I enjoyed it again this year. I think the event is well run, and since I live in Katy it is easy to get to. I had been working hard in spin class so I was hoping for some big gains on the bike. I hadn’t been on the road at all so I had no idea how fast I would be. The good news is I was faster, the bad news is I wasn’t as fast as I thought I would be. 17.5mph was what I rode, I was hoping for nothing less than 18mph. Oh well, more training is needed I guess.

Did you get stronger today?

I did.
Tough spin class this morning. All of the spin classes are a good workout but this one was special. I really pushed myself. At one point I stayed at my anaerobic threshold for several minutes. It isn’t easy but worth it.
All of my workouts are at least 60 minutes and this one was no different. The only difference was the intensity. I can’t workout like this all the time but it feels good to really bust one out every now and again.

I’m back

On 9/1 I was feeling like I was coming down with a cold, and this turned into an upper respitory infection that I have been fighting since then. My chest still isn’t completely clear but I resumed my morning workouts on Thursday. Missing six days I normally workout felt like a lot. Hopefully my body enjoyed the rest and will be better for it.

I was feeling pretty worn down at the end of August. The worn down feeling is pretty justified when I look at my workout logs. For August I had 22 morning workouts totally 23 hours. That doesn’t include my swim workouts which would add another 11 hours on top of that. 33 hours in August – Not Too Shabby.

In other news I had a dream the other night that I was on a training ride and I was having some issues with flats. A professional cyclist or triathlete saw me and was helping me out. Later he told my friend Kevin, who was also on the ride, that he was going to give me a new bike to help me with my goal. In the dream he showed it to me an hour later, it was a yellow Felt brand bike. I have no idea why it was yellow or the brand Felt. So I’m ready for my new, fancy and free bike. Color and brand don’t matter Smilie: :-)

On a roll

Another week of great workouts. So far for my moring workouts I’ve had 15 for the month of August. That doesn’t count my swim workouts. Including swims, I had nine workouts this week as well as last week. Not too shabby.

I’ve starting jogging on the treadmill and while it is going slowly the workouts are tough and I know they will get easier fairly quickly. My big news is that I swam 2000 meters freestyle on friday, without stopping. It took me 59 minutes which is slow, but I could have kept going if I wanted to. The worst part was counting the laps. 40 laps total without losing count is tough!
